Spring and summer bring many momentous occasions: Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, weddings, graduations, and students returning home from college. With these events and celebrations come millions of packages traveling across the country, many of them filled with foam packaging peanuts. After unpacking, many people wonder if there’s a more environmentally conscious alternative to throwing all those peanuts into a landfill. The UPS Store Hickam is encouraging consumers to help protect the environment by bringing in clean, foam packaging peanuts of all sizes, shapes and colors for reuse. This is part of an ongoing effort by The UPS Store Hickam to increase peanut recycling throughout the year.

A follow-up survey, conducted in mid-December, after economic conditions worsened, showed only a small decline in the first survey’s optimism, with 86 percent of small-businesses owners expecting their company to be in the same or better financial shape in one year.
“Small-business owners have an innate optimism and resilience,” said The
Importantly, this optimism is rooted in realism as small-business owners surveyed do not project a speedy economic recovery. In the first survey, almost half (47 percent) of small-business owners said they believe that the
“Small businesses are a critical component of the economy and often cited as the engine of economic growth,” said Larry Adler.
Small-business owners may be particularly optimistic for one important reason: they love what they do. When asked in the first survey what else they would do if money were no object, more than one-third (37 percent) said they would continue running their businesses and 12 percent said they would invest more money in their companies. Only 13 percent said they would retire.
